Starwatch consumer | Pension funding alarm; Toshiba laptop recall
The deficit in pension plans sponsored by the nation’s largest companies increased by $76 billion to $506 billion at the end of August, according to a Mercer Investment Counseling report. The pension shortfall is the largest ever recorded by S&P 1500 companies and is also more than twice the 2009 year-end deficit of $247 billion, Mercer said.
